We are celebrating 20 years!

One day at Rema, I heard a little boy shout, "Daddy, daddy – it's Camilla the chef!"

20 years of culinary joy – a founder's story

When Barn til Bords started in 2005, no one was delivering food to kindergartens. It was just a mom who wanted to make food for her daughter's kindergarten. That’s how it began: no systems, no financial muscle, just a lot of passion for the work. I did everything myself and delivered the food every day. Daily conversations with parents, the children, and the kindergarten staff were valuable and inspiring.

The vision was to teach children to eat all kinds of food – we aren't born with a specific taste. Taste is something we develop, and good habits are a gift we can give our children.

With all of this in mind, food was eventually prepared for hundreds of children before we outgrew the kitchen and had to find a new place to rent.

In 2012, Barn til Bords became a limited company, and the first full-time employees joined. We became a team sharing the responsibility.

After renting space from other catering companies since the start, we got our own kitchen at Rud in 2016. All the employees have been with us since then, which means we know each other and our customers well.

In 2018, we became a Gazelle winner.

Most entrepreneurs don't succeed. Around 70 percent of new businesses close within five years, and of those that survive, only one in ten truly gains a foothold. Barn til Bords had a revenue increase of 20% per year – and control over costs.

In 2026, we are a stable team at Barn til Bords who enjoy working together. We aren't so large that we don't know all the kindergartens. The focus is not on growth, but on quality and development.

The next blog post will be about food trends – stay tuned.
